Classics Designs:

Classics is the name of the range of Timberframe Homes of Distinction, designed for the discerning and marketed by The Border Design Centre.

Classics are unique, with their hint of Scots Baronial and echo of the Victorian era, but first and foremost, they are designed to be lived in - not just looked at! We didn't set out to design an imitation of any style but the more we thought about houses the more we realised that our forebears knew a lot more about house design than that for which they are given credit. Link this design approach with modern building techniques and you end up with a house of real character, but as convenient and comfortable, well insulated and draughtproof, low in maintenance and running costs as any modern home should be - and all updated to the current Building Regulations.

CLASSICS encompass widely varying styles and layouts to suit sites of every shape and size and to cater for the most demanding of purchasers' needs. Bungalows, 1½ storey, 2 storey, 3 storey, split-level, detached, semi-detached, terraced, town houses, flats, maisonettes, first homes or holiday cottages - they have all been penned by The Border Design Centre studio.

Unlike most home designers and timberframe manufacturers, we at The Border Design Centre have resisted the temptation to use CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) in preparing our designs. We feel that good house design needs personal attention and flair, things which no CAD system can emulate. Every design is prepared by the company's principal, as has been the case since our foundation in 1961. All the timberframe components incorporated in Classics designs are manufactured by a Quality Assured member of the UKTFA (the UK Timber Frame Association).

Another way in which we differ from other designers and manufacturers is that we do not have a range of "standard" house plans. Our brochure, and the photographs featured on this website, show particular examples of what we have achieved over the years and it may be that one of these previous designs will prove to be just what you want but, in most cases, we would design especially to suit your own particular requirements and site.
